For over a century artists have flocked to Saint Augustine, inspired by its natural beauty, history and architectural land- marks. During the Gilded Age, railroad developer Henry Flagler invited famous artists to his opulent Ponce de Leon Hotel, providing them with art studios and a steady stream of wealthy patrons. When the Depression set in, savvy artists formed the Saint Augustine Art Association to promote the town’s European charm to tourists, and a vibrant art colony emerged. Today, Saint Augustine’s abundant galleries, creative spirit and popular art events continue to attract artists, musicians, writers and art lovers from all corners of the globe. Welcome to Saint Augustine, Florida--America’s cultural jewel!
